THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GUILLOTINES AND TRIMMERS

The main difference between trimmers and guillotines is the way that they cut. Guillotines use a downward shearing action to cut through the material whilst the revolving blade on a rotary trimmer slices through the paper from the side. In general, guillotines are best for cutting thicker materials or multiple sheets of paper whilst trimmers are more suitable for cutting just a few sheets at one time. The exception to this is the new Swordfish Ellipse-500 trimmer which will cut effortlessly through up to 30 sheets of paper.

A guillotine blade is exposed but shielded by a safety guard, where as on a trimmer, the rotary blade is encased inside a plastic housing. For this reason, trimmers are the preferred choice for schools where safety is paramount.
